Markus Fiedler came to 1. FC Magdeburg in summer. But it does not (yet) run for the successor of the migrated Christian Titz. A look at the table speaks a clear language. And Fiedler’s coaching chair shakes that.

The 1. FC Magdeburg is in the deepest crisis of this season. After the devastating 0: 4 home defeat against SV Elversberg Last Sunday (October 5, 2025), head coach Markus Fiedler was under massive pressure. The sixth defeat in a series and the whereabouts in the last place in the table with only three points from eight games make the discussion about a possible exemption louder.

No statement by sports director Schork

Before the game, FCM sports director Otmar Schork had emphasized that it was behind the coach. At Sky, he said: “The content is important for me, there is a unit. The international break will do us good.” After the clap against Elversberg, Schork did not want to comment, the FCM managers went to the diving station.

Talks about Fiedler’s future?

It fits that a media round that was actually scheduled for Monday was postponed to Tuesday with the sports director. The official reason for this step is to connect the media round to the public training session on Tuesday. In truth, however, this will rather be a clear sign that intensive discussions about the future of the trainer take place behind the scenes.

This looked helpless after 0: 4. In an interview with Sport in the east, he admitted: “We are immensely disappointed. About the outcome, about the game development and accordingly we have to analyze this for ourselves.”

Weak at the back, weak at the front – “great perplexity”

At 19, the defensive of the FCM is the weakest in the league, while the team does not use their chances on the offensive. Particularly bitter: Magdeburg started properly against Elversberg, but then awarded the best opportunities and Elversberg punished this ice cold.

There is “great perplexity, anger and disappointment,” fcm player Alexander Nollenberger summarized the performance in the SPIO interview. The situation is “difficult to put into words”, especially because it was “very euphoric” during the week.

Elversberg coach takes Fiedler under protection

One who was also no longer euphoric, even though one could have expected it after a 4-0 win, is Vincent Wagner, coach of FC Elversberg. After the game, he had held a rare plea for his colleague:

“I appreciate Markus as a trainer and just hope that he will get the opportunity to get it with the troop.” It remains questionable whether this support from the competition can still make a difference.

Predict Titz also needed patience

However, in Magdeburg you also know that it can be worth holding on the trainer. Fiedler’s predecessor Christian Titz had to survive several result crises during his tenure.

In the pre -season it lasted until the 22nd matchday before the first home win – a 3-0 against the leaders 1. FC Köln. The wages of holding on to Titz was that the club was able to get involved in the promotion race until the penultimate matchday.
