Said El Mala reported fit for 1. FC Köln’s derby against Borussia Mönchengladbach on Thursday. The 19-year-old was able to complete team training two days before the duel between the Rhenish arch-rivals after El Mala had to go to the locker room early the day before.
An MRI revealed that El Mala had suffered a small ligament injury. However, this does not prevent him from exerting himself, he only has to wear a tape bandage in the coming days. So nothing stands in the way of his first international trip with the German national team.

Said El Mala stopped training at 1. FC Köln on Wednesday morning. The striker received a blow to his left ankle and limped into the dressing room with an ice pack on his ankle. The Billy Goats’ top talent had an unfortunate injury during a game.
First, El Mala was treated by FC physiotherapist Daniel Schütz. But then he could no longer continue and was accompanied into the catacombs by athletic trainer Tillmann Bockhorst. This means the billy goats are worried about their four-goal striker three days before the derby at Borussia Mönchengladbach.

Jan Thielmann is currently missing from 1. FC Köln due to a muscle injury. The attacker was injured before the two highlight games against Borussia Dortmund and FC Bayern Munich. The 23-year-old was originally supposed to be able to play again after the international break.
If Thielmann has his way, the comeback could take place earlier. “Of course I’m aiming for the derby,” said the FC homegrown player on Sunday during the half-time break in the game against Hamburger SV. However, the attacker himself knows that a return on Saturday against Borussia Mönchengladbach could come too soon. “But,” Thielmann continued, “the sensible option would be to get back in after the international break.”
Denis Huseinbasic played his 100th competitive game in the 1. FC Köln jersey on Sunday against Hamburger SV. “Proud and grateful to have taken this path in Cologne. Here’s to many more,” Huseinbasic wrote about the fellow promoted team on Instagram after the 4-1 win. Only seven players from FC’s current squad have already surpassed this mark.
