FC Volendam is unable to pull the trigger. Another fifteen minutes for coach Rick Kruys’ men, otherwise it’s the lottery of penalties.
Things aren’t going well for FC Volendam either. And then Robert Mühren in particular. The striker, who normally scores so easily, shoots the ball narrowly wide with the inside of his foot. Will it really be an evening like that?

The referee briefly went to the side to look at the images, but decided not to award a penalty to Jagiellonia Bialystok. Peer Koopmeiners came into contact with a Polish player, but fortunately the manager saw no point in that for AZ.

There is the first big opportunity for AZ. The ball arrives at the feet of Sven Mijnans six meters from the goal line. The captain cannot shoot the ball against the ropes due to the actions of the Polish defenders.
Not much happened in the first fifteen minutes. A fairly harmless long shot from Sven Mijnans, that’s about it. The Alkmaarders do have more ball possession.
FC Volendam escapes a deficit. Xavier Mbuyamba plays the ball back to goalkeeper Roy Steur, but he shoots into Jasper Tuinman. The ball just goes over the own goal.

The match AZ – Jagiellonia Bialystok has started. Can the Alkmaarders secure a place among the best eight teams in the Conference League?
Just before half time, Genemuiden gets a chance. Jasper Tuinman can go far and eventually shoots at the hands of goalkeeper Roy Steur. Afterwards there is immediate rest.
The opening goal is almost there. Robert Mühren is played well, but goalkeeper Hidde Streutker taps his effort from the far corner. Silvinho Esajas’ shot is blocked on the rebound.
Many wrong passes on FC Volendam’s side. The home team has difficulty creating opportunities against Genemuiden, which plays in the third division. The pace is on the slow side and a lot of things go wrong in possession.
Not much of a spectacle in Volendam for the time being. The home team has already had some opportunities, but Genemuiden keeps things pretty close in the last ten minutes. The Genemuiden fans who traveled along enjoyed it to the fullest.
FC Volendam often reports for the Genemuiden goal. Robert Mühren is close and Alex Plat seems to have the ball to shoot in, but misses the ball completely. A long shot from Ozan Kökcü then flies a meter wide. Goalkeeper Hidde Streutker is keeping his goal clean for the time being.
A good action by Aurelio Oehlers on the right leads to a decent opportunity for Robert Mühren. The FC Volendam striker is defended in such a way that his effort goes wide.
The visitors get the first chance of the match. Rens van Benthem comes up the left side and forces Roy Steur into a save.
Genemuiden has already committed three fouls in the first three minutes. However, FC Volendam has not yet become dangerous from the subsequent free kicks.

This means that AZ avoids the intermediate round and is another round further in the knockout phase of the Conference League. AZ is dependent on other results.
Opponent Jagiellonia Bialystok is 18th in the group and is on course to finish among the best 24 teams and therefore a place in the intermediate round.
FC Volendam can qualify for the eighth finals of the KNVB Cup tonight as the fourth North Holland team. AZ already eliminated PEC Zwolle two weeks ago (1-3). Telstar won the away match at Hoek on Tuesday with 1-4 and Ajax defeated the amateurs of Excelsior Maassluis: 2-7.
There is a lot of police on the ground in Alkmaar, because things previously got out of hand with Polish football supporters. To prevent disturbances in the city, Mayor Anja Schouten has decided to designate a number of safety risk areas in the city.
Two years ago things went terribly wrong during the AZ – Legia Warsaw match. Apart from fan violence, the players and club management of Legia also came into trouble with AZ security. In the aftermath, a real social media smear campaign was started against AZ, the mayor and the city of Alkmaar.
It is expected that 600 fans of Jagiellonia Bialystok have traveled.
FC Volendam reached the second round of the KNVB Cup by defeating Quick Boys. Rick Kruys’ team won 2-1 at the end of October thanks to goals from Aurelio Oehlers and Brandley Kuwas. Genemuiden converted at the expense of Halsteren.
