ENDED: AZ – Go Ahead Eagles 2-2
ENDED: FC Volendam – NEC 2-3
FC Volendam loses at home for the second time this season
Shiogai still scores the winner for NEC.
This is a big blow for AZ. The disappointment is visible among both the supporters and the players. They expected a bit more from this in Alkmaar and again lost points for AZ.
FC Volendam scores another goal in the final phase. Mawouna Amevor heads the ball from a free kick into the far corner. FC Volendam comes next to NEC just before the end.
That should have been the 3-2 for AZ. After a great move and some coincidence, the ball comes to Sven Mijnans’ feet. The captain cannot get the ball between the posts from close range.
Four minutes of injury time left.
Oh dear! What a major disappointment this is. AZ seemed to have the match under control, but through Melle Meulensteen the visitors were level again. The Go Ahead Eagles midfielder shoots the ball into the bottom left corner from far outside the penalty area. It is his second goal of the afternoon.
NEC takes the lead against FC Volendam. The visitors became stronger and stronger. Basar Onal comes in from the left and strikes with his right. Kayne van Oevelen misjudged Onal’s attempt because Amevor was in the path of the shot. FC Volendam still has more than fifteen minutes to clear the deficit.
NEC is eagerly looking for the lead. FC Volendam is pushed back and has to rely on the counter.
Former AZ player Kenzo Goudmijn came within the lines and moments later shot from distance at AZ’s goal. That did not cause many problems for Rome-Jayden Owusu-Oduro.
A funny detail is that his father Kenneth Goudmijn is an assistant coach at AZ and sits next to Maarten Martens in the dug-out.
The Alkmaarders started well in the second part of this game. Where things were still going smoothly earlier this afternoon and a number of AZ staff did not understand each other, things are now going a lot better. The biggest chance after the break was for Mateo Chavez. The Mexican defender shot straight at Go Ahead keeper Jari de Busser.
We are barely a minute into the second half when the ball is already behind Kayne van Oevelen. The FC Volendam goalkeeper has no answer to a long shot from Darko Nejasmic.
There was of course no reason for trainer Rick Kruys to change.
AZ started the second half with the same eleven players.
With a nice lead, FC Volendam reaches the dressing room halfway.
Brandley Kuwas is allowed to shoot from eleven meters after a handball has been made in the penalty area. The FC Volendam midfielder sends the NEC goalkeeper into the wrong corner. FC Volendam takes the lead just before half time.
And there is the lead for AZ. The goal was scored by Eagles player Mats Deijl. The captain wants to pass the ball back to his goalkeeper Jari de Busser, but that goes completely wrong. Lucky for AZ.
FC Volendam is growing in the competition. Mawouna Amevor saw his effort saved by Gonzalo Crettaz, the NEC goalkeeper, after which Henk Veerman suddenly got the ball at his feet. The Volendam striker cannot get the ball into the goal from close range because Crettaz saves a second time with an utmost effort.
Kayne van Oevelen throws his whole body into battle to block a shot from Sami Ouaissa. The FC Volendam goalkeeper thus prevents the opening goal of the Nijmegen team
Quite unexpectedly there is the equalizer. Wonderful cross from Mees de Wit and the question is whether Troy Parrott is still there with his head. But more importantly, it’s a goal. AZ can use this very well.
A few minutes later the stadium speaker announces that Troy Parrott is the scorer.
Things are not going well at AZ. Players are annoyed with each other or feel misunderstood. Troy Parrott and Weslley Patati had a heated discussion about it. From time to time you can also hear some flute concerts from the stands.
FC Volendam is certainly not inferior to NEC in the opening phase. In terms of football, Rick Kruys’ team can keep up well with the visitors from Nijmegen. However, we still have to wait for the first opportunity for FC Volendam against the current number four in the Premier League.
NEC is the first to fire on the goal. Bryan Linssen takes a shot from the edge of the penalty area. Kayne van Oevelen turns the ball with some effort.
Painful start for AZ. After a sloppy loss of ball by captain Sven Mijnans, Go Ahead Eagles scores. It is Melle Meulensteen who benefits from this bungling among the Alkmaarders. Work to be done for AZ!
Troy Parrott has some ground to make up for and his energy is clearly visible in the opening stages. As a result, he creates a very nice chance early in this game. However, his shot ends up on the fists of the Eagles goalkeeper.
The ball is rolling in Alkmaar. And the big question is whether AZ can take revenge for last season’s cup final loss?
The match between FC Volendam and NEC has started
FC Volendam is almost impossible to beat in its own stadium. Only Excelsior returned home with three points, thanks to a goal in the final second. A total of 12 points were scored against the other 6 visiting teams.
