Fred Grim will become the oldest trainer to lead Ajax in a European match tonight. He replaces another interim coach at 60 years and 100 days, John van ‘t Schip (60 years and 75 days against Aston Villa in March 2024).
Grim scored twice in the preliminary rounds of the Champions League for Ajax. That was in the third qualifying round against Celtic in the 2001/02 season. The former goalkeeper ultimately kept 125 matches for the team from Amsterdam.
