A woman from Zwanenburg made a large donation to her village after her death. Five social initiatives from the village will receive a substantial check tomorrow. However, the identity of this generous giver remains a mystery.
After the death of this resident, the Zwanenburg/Halfweg village council received a large donation. “We have decided to divide this donated amount among various social initiatives within the village,” says Peter Vreeswijk, chairman of the village council.
The village council does not know who the woman in question was. The amount of the donations and who the recipients are will be revealed during the ceremony. It is already known that one of the donations will go to the chicken coop of De Cuddle Meadow in Zwanenburg.
Chicken coop
The old chicken coop was clearly in need of replacement, as it turned out NH visited the petting zoo in February. This was partly because the rats had chewed it up. “The old cage was really gone,” says Ilma, manager and supervisor at the petting zoo.
“The whole village helped”
The children’s farm tried to raise more than 10,000 euros to build a new chicken coop. “We are happy with every donation. And believe me, we got a lot. The whole village helped.”

Despite the fact that the petting zoo had not yet collected the money, a new chicken coop has been in place since July. “It had to be replaced really quickly,” she says. “That was partly done with advanced money.” The check will make a major contribution to this and the remaining amount will be paid by the village council.
Soon the chickens will be allowed to enter their new spacious coop. “But we’re going to furnish the loft first.” Among other things, the chickens will receive a sand free-range box and climbing possibilities, such as perches.
The donations will be handed over on August 26 at 4 p.m. in the Stoomgemaal in Halfweg. When more is known about the other initiatives after the presentation, they will also be highlighted by NH.
