As in Indian Wells, also in Florida the German will try to prevent Jannik from reaching the final

Collaborator

March 27 – 01:28 – MILAN

Alexander Zverev is there for Jannik Sinner in the semifinal of the ATP 1000 in Miami. Another time. Just as happened in Indian Wells two weeks ago, the German will try to prevent the world number two from winning the Sunshine Double. For Sasha in California it was a defeat, a 6-2 6-4 with no history. Zverev swept away the Argentine Francisco Cerundolo in the quarterfinals in Florida (6-1 6-2 the score in one hour and six minutes), allowing himself a calm match without too many frills.

the previous ones

Sinner comes from six consecutive victories against the current number three in the world (7-4 the previous ones), and only on two occasions (in Cincinnati in 2024 and in Vienna last year) was the match at least fought, even if the Italian champion always emerged victorious. Jannik comes from fifteen consecutive victories in the Masters 1000 and 30 sets in a row, so it is clear that he is the favourite. On paper, Zverev is one of the very few who could bother Sinner, if on the day, but Sasha has been there very few times since his last victory against the Italian (US Open 2023). Thanks to the South Tyrolean, of course, who has too much solid tennis to be worried by the too many breaks that the German takes during matches. However, the final is certainly not a given for Sinner: it is still a clash between the number two and number three in the world. The semi-final between the two is scheduled for midnight.

the cerundolo practice

– Zverev reached the twenty-fifth semifinal in the 1000, the third in Miami, playing a good match against Cerundolo, a player who last year he met 5 times and who had also beaten him twice (on South American clay). On hard courts, however, the German’s superiority immediately appeared evident. Sasha immediately took a 5-0 lead in the first set, closing 6-1 with clear dominance. In the second game Cerundolo tried to do something but Zverev’s break in the third game effectively ended the match, with the Argentine raising the white flag. The German served excellently (75% of first serves), few errors, no roller coaster. Sasha seems really fit, but against Sinner, he knows it too, it will really be a different story.
