ZV De Zaan water polo players go under, while women keep their heads above water

The men of ZV De Zaan started the play-offs for the national title with a bad feeling. It became 8-3 against GZC Donk. The women’s start was stronger, as they won 16-10.

The men’s team of ZV De Zaan has never become champion in its history (in existence since 2012). They were close a few times. The water polo players already won the Supercup and recently the cup, but were well behind after two quarters (7-2).

The opponent from Gouda did not relinquish that large margin in the remainder of the match: 8-3. Not a man is overboard yet. The battle for the national championship will be decided in a best-of-three series. The second game is tomorrow in Zaandam.

Women

For the women, the first game was a good start to the playoffs. They also played against Donk and won convincingly. Especially Lieke Rogge was important, she made three hits. The halftime score was therefore 11-7. The last quarters were used to extend the score (16-10). The women will be champions tomorrow if they beat Donk again.

NH Sport will be present in Zaandam tomorrow and will follow both finals closely.
