Ziyech: medical examinations not passed, the agreement with Al Nassr is missing

In January, the PSG negotiation for the Moroccan from Chelsea had not been concluded at the last second. Now history repeats itself with Cristiano Ronaldo’s team

This transfer does not have to be done. Hakim Ziyech is starting to hear this too often. In January, after an excellent World Cup with his Morocco, the full-back was convinced he could leave Chelsea where he had no space to go and play at PSG, but the loan fell through at the last second, with the Blues too busy take Enzo Fernandez. Now he seemed sure to say goodbye to Stamford Bridge to move to the very rich Saudi Pro League and go to play with Cristiano Ronaldo at Al Nassr. Once again though, something went wrong and the deal fell through again.

YELLOW

Like 6 months ago with PSG, once again Ziyech’s missed transfer is a mini-yellow. The agreement between the clubs was quickly found on the basis of 10 million euros. The one between Al Nassr and the 30-year-old who won the 2021 Champions League with the Blues was for a salary of 10.5 million euros in three seasons. Ziyech underwent his medical, and that’s where the problems started. According to indiscretions from Riyadh reported by the UK press, the tests would have highlighted a knee problem on the outside with possible long-term relapses. And then the CR7 club, the same one that Marcelo Brozovic is negotiating with Inter, would have begun to have second thoughts, so much so that he would have withdrawn the initial economic proposal, replacing it with a lower one and prompting Ziyech to say no. No diplomatic incident this time, as happened in January between Chelsea and PSG, with the deal skipped the gong of the winter session because the Blues had not sent Paris the right documents to close the operation.

and now?

Ziyech remains on the market. In 2020, the Blues paid 40 million to take him from Ajax, but in London the Moroccan never made it through and in the last season he played 24 games, most of them starting from the bench and never being able to score. The full-back, who has a two-year contract in London worth 3.3 million euros net per season, is the first to be unhappy with the situation. Chelsea will try to find him another accommodation: Ziyech is one of the redundancies in Pochettino’s squad, the one that the Blues are trying to thin out in view of the resumption of training next week. When the team leaves for the US tour on July 17, the hope of club and player is that Ziyech will not be there because he has already found a team.
