Zimmermann joins Koch’s legacy at the DFB

As expected, Ronny Zimmermann is the new chairman of the conference of state and regional association presidents at the DFB.

The 60-year-old lawyer from Wiesloch and President of the Baden State Association will succeed Rainer Koch on March 11, as the German Football Association announced on Monday.

Zimmermann had been proposed by the South German Football Association, and the vote was unanimous. Koch had no longer run for office. According to the DFB statutes, the chairman of the conference of presidents is also the candidate for the office of first vice president amateurs. Zimmermann still has to be confirmed in this position by the DFB Bundestag on March 11 in Bonn. “I know about the great challenges that await all of us and that are specifically associated with this position,” said Zimmermann, who was previously responsible for youth football and refereeing.

The amateur representatives with their voting majority play a decisive role when the new DFB President is elected in the Bundestag. Candidates are the former Schalke chief financial officer and German FIFA representative Peter Peters, who is supported by professional football, and Bernd Neuendorf, who was proposed by the amateur camp. Koch sits on the Executive Committee of the European Football Union UEFA. He had already announced last year that he would no longer run for 1st Vice President at the DFB. However, he is still aiming for a seat on the Executive Committee.
