The rumors about Zinedine Zidane’s early comeback to the coaching bench continue. Now the Frenchman feeds this with another statement.
Former world footballer Zinedine Zidane is returning to the position of coach.
According to consistent media reports, he said at a charity event that he would be working as a trainer again “soon, very soon.”
He had already spoken out about a possible job as French national coach in October. The 53-year-old emphasized at the time that he would like to coach the French national team “in the future.” At the same time, he noted that this is not yet certain.
“I’m sure I’ll work as a coach again,” Zidane said in Rome during an event organized by the Italian sports newspaper La Gazzetta dello Sport.
Zidane acted as national coach
“In the future, and I’m not saying it will happen now, I would like to coach the French national team one day. We’ll see,” said the 1998 World Cup winner and 2000 European Cup winner.

Zidane has long been considered the favorite to succeed national coach Didier Deschamps. He will give up his position at the Équipe Tricolore after the 2026 World Cup.
Zidane immediately enjoyed gigantic success as coach of Real Madrid. During his stints from 2016 to 2018 and 2019 to 2021, he won the championship title twice (2017, 2020) and three Champions League titles in a row (2016, 2017, 2018). After his second resignation in 2021, he took a break from coaching that continues to this day. This may be over soon.
Zidane already in the middle of preparing for the Équipe Tricolore?
In September, the French sports newspaper “L’Équipe” revealed that “Zizou” was already intensively preparing for the job. Among other things, the 53-year-old has already sought a direct exchange with Laurent Blanc, who coached the Équipe Tricolore from 2010 to 2012. It is said that Zidane asked him about his experiences.
