Exciting Sunday in the 2nd league. Dynamo Dresden in particular had every reason to celebrate.
No winner in the top game of the 2nd league on Sunday. But the 0-0 draw against Darmstadt at least pushes SV Elversberg back to third place. Arminia Bielefeld lost 1-2 in the derby against Preußen Münster (Joel Grodowski/8th, Oliver Batista Meier/32nd and Leon Schneider/89th).
Dynamo Dresden celebrated an important 2-1 win in the relegation battle against Fortuna Düsseldorf. Alexander Rossipal (45th) and Vincent Vermeij (53rd) scored for Dynamo, Christian Rasmussen (84th) only managed the next goal.
Due to the draw in the pursuit duel, the Lilies (26 points) also missed their chance to climb to third place. This is where Elversberg ranks (27 points), who have now been unbeaten in ten home games.
The initial phase belonged to the people of Darmstadt. The Swedish striker Isac Lidberg had the lead from close range, the Elversberg goalkeeper Nicolas Kristof directed the ball onto the crossbar (7th). The guests remained dangerous afterwards, Killian Corredor was unable to take advantage of another great chance (27th). After almost half an hour, Elversberg got stronger, and things also got tricky several times in front of the Darmstadt goal.
In the second half both teams neutralized each other and after around an hour everything looked like a goalless draw. Neither Elversberg nor Darmstadt were able to create any real chances, there was hardly anything on offer apart from midfield duels and the game dragged on. Things only got exciting again in the 80th minute: Younes Ebnoutalib missed the great opportunity to give Elversberg the lead.
Dynamo Dresden celebrated their first home win and Fortuna Düsseldorf suffered the next setback. Alexander Rossipal (45th) and ex-Düsseldorfer Vincent Vermeij (53rd) brought Dresden’s second success in a row with their goals. With 13 points, Dynamo climbed to 15th place and is only one point behind 14th place. from Düsseldorf. Substitute Christian Rasmussen scored for Fortuna (84th).
In the Rudolf Harbig Stadium, a game developed on equal terms, but both teams initially hardly had any dangerous chances to score. Jakob Lemmer (36th), who was clearly offside when Dresden was supposed to take the lead, and Cedric Itten (40th), who headed onto the post on the other side a little later, missed promising opportunities.
Shortly before the break, Rossipal finally gave the hosts a remarkable lead. Dresden also got off to a better start in the second half, with Vermeij scoring from close range. Dresden initially had more of the game, Düsseldorf tried to hold back. After Rasmussen’s goal, things got exciting again. Dynamo goalkeeper Lennart Grill apparently suffered a serious injury in stoppage time. Field player Aljaz Casar had to replace him in goal, as Dresden had already made five changes.
