President of Ukraine Vladimir Zelensky announced the convening of an urgent meeting of the National Security and Defense Council (NSDC) in connection with the statements made at the meeting of the extraordinary Security Council of the Russian Federation. He also informed that he had held urgent consultations with French President Emmanuel Macron and German Chancellor Olaf Scholz. Zelensky wrote about all this on Twitter.

The NSDC meeting is expected on the evening of February 21, followed by a briefing.

The main topic of the extraordinary meeting of the Security Council of the Russian Federation was the situation in Donbass. Earlier, the heads of the DPR and LPR Denis Pushilin and Leonid Pasechnik addressed the President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin with a request to recognize the independence of the republics. Speakers at the Security Council spoke out in support of such a decision. Putin listened to the members of the Security Council and promised that the decision will be made on February 21.

Later, the President addressed the Russians. Prior to this, the Russian leader held telephone conversations with his French counterpart and the German Chancellor. Putin notified Emmanuel Macron and Olaf Scholz that will soon sign a decree recognizing the DNR and LNR. Macron and Scholz expressed disappointment.
