Zara parent Inditex enters into a strategic partnership with recycling start-up Ambercycle

The Spanish clothing group Industria de Diseño Textil SA (Inditex) will in future rely on recycled polyester fibers from the US start-up Ambercycle, founded in 2015. On Wednesday both companies announced a strategic partnership.

As part of the agreement, the Inditex Group, which includes brands such as Zara, Massimo Dutti, Stradivarius, Pull & Bear and Bershka, committed to producing a “significant part of the annual production” of the raw material Cycora developed by Ambercycle over the next three years Value of more than 70 million euros. Cycora is made from recycled polyester waste and can be used to produce new functional textiles.

With the partnership, Inditex secures a supply of environmentally friendly materials and thus advances its sustainability efforts. In return, Ambercycle will receive support in the construction of its first commercial textile factory, which is currently scheduled to start operations in 2025.

As the first result of the collaboration, Inditex launched a new capsule collection from the Zara Athleticz sportswear line on Wednesday, which includes items with a Cycora content of up to 50 percent.
