Zara launches detergent that reduces microfiber detachment from textiles

Retail giant Zara, in partnership with chemical company BASF Home Care and I&I Solutions Europe, has launched a new detergent that claims to reduce microfiber shedding from textiles by up to 80 percent.

The formula of the detergent was developed on the basis of laboratory tests on different types of fabrics and washing conditions.

A statement from the Inditex-owned brand states that the detergent can also help end users reduce their energy consumption by reducing washing temperatures to 20 degrees Celsius, as the product is said to be particularly suitable for such conditions.

Javier Losada, Chief Sustainability Officer at Inditex, said at the launch: “Innovation and collaboration are key to addressing the challenges in the textile industry. We strive to be more creative and efficient by driving innovative new technologies.”

“This project with BASF is a good example of this approach because it shows the effectiveness of cross-industry collaboration and goes one step further as it can be adapted to expand the use of this technology in the industry,” added Losada.

The new product will be available under the Zara Home label in 25 markets, including most of Europe, both in the brand’s stores and online.

Zara expects the product to be available in more markets in the coming weeks.
