The duel was suspended on Monday due to rain and resumed indoors this Tuesday

The Argentine signed 72 winning shots and saved 17 of 21 ‘break’ balls

The Spanish Bernabé Zapata, who was three games away from victory at Wimbledon on Monday, succumbed this Tuesday to the Argentine Tomás Martín Etcheverry, that raised two adverse sets and 1-3 against in the third (6-7 (5), 5-7, 6-4, 6-4 and 7-5).

The Valencian went to the locker room on Monday with the game suspended due to lack of light and after the Argentine had won five games in a row. In the resumption this Tuesday, the game was scheduled as the last one on track 1, indoors, the worst possible conditions for a Zapata who has never won a game on this surface.

Etcheverry, with a ‘break’ in the fourth and a carousel and drama of the fifth set, in which he saved five of the six break balls he had, got his first victory at Wimbledon and will face the Swiss Stan Wawrinka in the next round.

The Argentine, who hit 72 winners against Zapata and saved 17 of 21 break balls, has never faced Wawrinka.
