A fire broke out early this morning in Zaandam at a company on Diederik Sonoyweg. Emergency services are on site and parts of the road are closed. According to the fire brigade, cocoa bags have caught fire.
The fire broke out in the building around ten to half past six. It is not yet clear how extensive the damage is and what the exact size of the fire is.
According to the fire brigade, everyone present left the building safely. As a precaution, the Diederik Sonoyweg is closed in both directions.
It is probably the cocoa processing company JS Cocao, although the fire brigade could not yet confirm this. Fires have already occurred three times in the company in the past two months.
Fires have also broken out in a Zaan cocoa factory elsewhere in the Zaan region in recent months. On October 21 there was fire in a silo of a factory on the Bijenkorfstraat in Zaandijk, and at the end of September a major fire reported at a cocoa factory on the East side in Zaandam.
