The Westkaaipark is close to a bicycle junction through which many cyclists pass each year. The city has made the area widely accessible. There are even wheelchair-friendly picnic benches.
Inhabitants of Ypres could give their opinion on the project and were given the opportunity to provide feedback after the presentation of the preliminary design. A vote was also taken on the name: 300 inhabitants of Ypres made a suggestion. Westkaaipark was the clear preference with 118 votes.
The construction of the park cost 60,000 euros, Westtoer and the province contribute a large part of that.
