The German biathlon talent Lukas Tannheimer has won a first big title in his still young career. The 17-year-old is allowed to call himself a youth world champion after his victory in Östersund.
Lukas Tannheimer from the German Ski Association (DSV) is the new youth world champion in the biathlon sprint. The younger brother of World Cup participant Julia Tannheimer won on Saturday in the Swedish Östersund ahead of Leo Carlier from France and Tov Roeyysland from Norway.
The DSV ski hunter came through the competition with a mistake at the shooting range, in the end there was a lead of almost 15 seconds thanks to an outstanding mileage. Roeyysland, which remained flawless, was 17 seconds behind.
For Lukas Tannheimer it was the second medal in the third race of the youth and junior World Cup in Sweden. With the mixed relay, he was able to win silver on the side of Lena Siegmund, Melina Gaupp and Körbi Kübler. Then the victory had gone to the Norwegians, the French quartet took third place.
The 18-year-old Kübler, meanwhile, missed the podium as already in singles at the start of the World Cup. The DSV Youngster took fourth place again in the sprint, this time he was missing ten seconds. Kübler crossed the finish line with a shooting error, in singles he still had twelve seconds behind in third place. Luca Anding landed as a further German starter in the sprint in the 36th place.
German biathlon juniors missed Top 10 in the sprint
The Norwegian Martine Skog won the women on Saturday, who did not allow herself to be a mistake at the shooting range in both rounds. Louise Roguet from France (1 error) and Ilona Plechacova from the Czech Republic (2 errors) lined up.
The best result from the German perspective achieved Melina Gaupp in 17th place, Leni Dietersberger took 20th place. Lena Siegmund (31st) and Sydney Wüstling (65th) clearly missed the top 20.
For the biathletes in the youth age group, the mass start on Monday (11:30 a.m.). The relay race (Tuesday, 3:00 p.m.) takes place at the end of the World Cup.
