Youth teams FC Den Helder and SV Koedijk with each other: ‘Out of proportion’

A football match in Den Helder between the youth teams of FC Den Helder and SV Koedijk ended yesterday in a rather unsporting way. Players from both teams brawled after the game and police said bystanders were also involved in the brawl.

A 14-year-old boy and a 50-year-old man were injured in the brawl. FC Den Helder did not want to comment yet because of ‘the seriousness of the brawl’.

Joost Schaub, chairman of SV Koedijk, tells NH Nieuws that he was ‘not pleasantly surprised’ this morning with the news about the brawl. “The conscious player of SV Koedijk was beaten and kicked. Fortunately, he did not have to stay in the hospital, but it looks like he has a serious concussion.”

‘This has an impact’

A coach from SV Koedijk was also involved in the violence. “There was pushing back and forth, and it was hit,” says Schaub. The chairman sits down with the team and the guidance for the necessary aftercare. “Then everyone can tell their story,” he explains. “So that it lands healthy. This has an impact, because we are talking about players under the age of 15. It is disproportionate.”

Despite the event, contact between the clubs remains positive, something Schaub is happy about. “We have good and healthy contact with the chairman of FC Den Helder. He is concerned about the well-being of our players. We are all shocked that it happened.”

Witness call

The police have since received several reports of assault and are investigating exactly what happened. They are asking witnesses to the fight to come forward.
