FC Bayern is threatened with an early exit from the Youth League. The Munich youth team suffered their third defeat in their fourth game at PSG on Tuesday afternoon. With three points, the Bayern talents remain below the 22nd place they need to advance. Victories are urgently needed in the remaining two games against FC Arsenal and Sporting Lisbon.
PSG took the lead with their first chance after five minutes through Mathis Jangéal. The Parisians followed up just as quickly in the second half when Elijah Ly (50th) scored with a Sunday shot. Jangéal missed the chance to score a brace with a penalty in the 69th minute. Shortly before the end, the offensive talent failed again from the spot against Bayern goalkeeper Leon Klanac (89th). Luis Schäfer had previously received a yellow-red card for a foul. In stoppage time, Younes Idder (90th + 9) managed to score the goal from eleven meters in his third attempt to make the final score 3-0.
Eintracht Frankfurt also has to worry about progressing in the Youth League. The SGE youngsters were at least able to secure a point away from SSC Naples. The young Eagles created a significant increase in chances in Italy, but missed a penalty and didn’t have the aluminum on their side, so in the end there was a zero on both sides. With four points from four games, the Hessians are still just above the line, but that could change on Wednesday.
In Naples, ex-Bundesliga professional Alexander Meier’s team, which set the tone from the start, repeatedly cut their teeth. Neither Niko Ilicevic (29th) nor Junior Awusi (39th) were able to overcome the opposing keeper with good chances in the first half. Marvin Dills hit the crossbar shortly after the break and then took a penalty for his team, but missed it in the 72nd minute. In the remaining games, Frankfurt will face Atalanta Bergamo and FC Barcelona.
