As in previous years, Borussia Dortmund can expect to progress in the Youth League. The BVB youth team won 3-0 (2-0) at Manchester City on Wednesday afternoon. With nine points, the Black and Yellows are five points ahead of Eintracht Frankfurt in 22nd place, which they need to advance, with two match days still remaining.

Taycan Etcibasi (40th minute) with a penalty kick and Thierry Fidjeu-Tazemeta (44th) shocked the Citizens twice shortly before the break. Dortmund maintained their lead in the second half until Fadi Zarqelain (90+2) finally put the lid on their third win in stoppage time.

Bayer Leverkusen, on the other hand, had a bad day and suffered their first defeat. The Werkself’s talents suffered a 0-5 (0-3) defeat at Benfica Lisbon. Gonçalo Moreira (9th/40th) with a brace and Francisco Silva (43rd) made everything clear in the first half. In the second round, Dudu (48th) and Gil Neves (55th) increased. With seven points, Leverkusen are still above the line.

“Benfica played well and gave us few chances. But I have to compliment the boys for fighting and working until the end. That was a very good attitude!” explained Bayer coach Kevin Brok. “We know about our personnel situation, but that is not an excuse and not the only reason. Benfica is a good team, they always do good youth work and have top players.”
