‘Youp van ‘t Hek, just shut up’

Olcay Gulsen, following her sweetheart Ruud de Wild, is also jumping out of her skin. Where he is furious about a sneer from Gerard Joling, she is pissed about criticism from Youp van ‘t Hek. “Just shut up.”

A boring couple with long toes: after six episodes of their flop soap we can draw that conclusion about Olcay Gulsen and Ruud de Wild. Where he completely freaks out because Gerard Joling has described him as ‘unsavory’, she now has an outburst of anger because of Youp van ‘t Hek’s statements.

Olcay hit

Youp van ‘t Hek has called the ‘vain glee’ that Ruud and Olcay have made recordings for their soap in the Turkish earthquake zone. He detests that the pair “scrounge among corpses for some third-rate soap opera.” Really mercilessly harsh criticism.

Actually, Olcay says she has received a lot of sweet reactions to her soap, but, she says in the final episode: “If you talk about the media, because the media likes to talk about the media, then only one thing touched me and that was Youp van ‘t Hek’s column.”

‘don’t be so stupid’

Olcay is really, really pissed off. “Youp van ‘t Hek lashed out at us that we traveled to Turkey with those aid workers, and that a doctor could have been in our place. Then I think to myself: Youp van ‘t Hek, don’t be so stupid, you don’t know how this went.”

She continues: “This whole trip was organized by me, it’s about my mother and father’s birthplace, what are you interfering with? If anyone has the right to help the local population there, it’s me, so just shut up. That is something that really affected me emotionally.”

Scrambling among corpses

Evert Santegoeds late in his podcast Strictly Private know that he agrees completely with Youp. “A ‘soggy set that is rummaging between the corpses in Turkey’. Yes, Youp was on a roll. That’s how I experienced it, I must say.”

He continues: “I thought it was terrible. Whoever came up with that, that those two people should get a reality soap, has been put in his place by the ratings. I don’t think that will get any further.”
