While the war between Israel and Hamas continues to rage in the Gaza Strip and demands victims, protests worldwide are increasing to support Palestine – also at concerts. On Saturday, Regina Spector’s concert in Portland, Oregon, was interrupted in the Revolution Hall when some visitors “Free Palestine!” Called and thus attracted the singer’s attention, how “Stereogum” reported.

Spector, who is Jewish and emigrated as a child from Russia, has publicly positioned itself. In October she performed at a pro-Israeli event in New York in October on the anniversary of the Hamas attack, which among other things met the Nova Festival in Israel. In 2023 she criticized Björk for her pro-Palestinian contribution.

“You just scream a Jew” “

As fan recordings show, the “stereogum” published, Spector was on stage when someone “Free Fucking Palestine!” cried. The disorder forced her to interrupt the concert and take a position.

“You just scream a Jew,” she said. “I don’t know what he thinks, what he is doing. I thank the security personnel.” Many of the audience applauded and supported. “Last night it was difficult when I said ‘Shalom Aleichem’,” continued the singer – a Hebrew greeting that means “peace be with you”. Parts of the audience replied with “Am Yisrael Chai” – “The people of Israel lives.”

“This is not the place for this conversation”

Spector tried to find the protesters in the audience. “Where are you?” But another visitor called that the interferer was “on the way out”. Spector commented: “I thought this was different from the Internet. It is real life.” The crowd called support statements when another demonstrating according to “stereogum” called: “I see dying children. It hurts.” Spector replied: “I think you should go – that’s not the place for this conversation. I am a real person who has come here to play music. If someone wants to go – that’s your chance. Want to go for a walk?” Then some visitors left the event.

“I speak English because I fled this shit”

Spector continued: “The only reason why I speak English is that I came here to escape this shit. I only speak English because I come from a country in which Jews and outsiders were treated – and now this happens to me, and that is shitty.” She also said: “It would be nice if a generation of my family didn’t have to go to a new country, had to learn a new language – could simply stay somewhere and have a nice life, people.” The complete video of this scene is To see here.

Pro-Palestine protests also on stage

Protesting from the stage is also protested: the band Kneecap loudly commented on Pro-Palestinian-which resulted in that it was unloaded by a Hungarian festival. Mo Chara von Kneecap was faced with terrorist allegations in Great Britain because at a concert in November 2024 he allegedly showed and called the HISBOLLAH flag: “High the Hamas, high the Hisbollah” and “The only good Tory is a dead tory”.

The British punk rap band Bob Vylan was also sanctioned: The US State Department withdrawn the visa after they had encouraged the audience at the Glastonbury Festival, “Free Palestine” and “Death, Death of the IDF [Israelische Verteidigungsstreitkräfte]“Call.

Hungry in Gaza – aid organizations alarmed

The Associated Press recently reported that at least 36 Palestinians had been killed in the Gaza Strip in Israeli air strikes. In July, dozens of children and adults were starved. The United Nations World Food Program reported last week that the famine in Gaza had achieved a “new and frightening degree of despair”. A third of the population have nothing to eat for several days in a row. According to the Ministry of Health in Gaza, there were 40 hunger -related deaths in July alone.
