Johan Derksen visibly surprises Rob Jetten when he calls him a ‘fake niece’ live on television. “Now that’s a nice compliment to put in my pocket.”
After Geert Wilders’ visit, it was Rob Jetten’s turn yesterday to join the influential men of Today Inside. The gentlemen at the table were fairly mild towards the leader of D66. At one point Johan Derksen even calls him ‘the perfect son-in-law’. However, there is a catch…
Fake cousin
For Johan, a compliment is not complete without a spicy sneer. “You seem to have a kind of split personality. You have a metamorphosis when you get into a discussion. Then the friendly, gentle Rob Jetten turns into a vicious false cousin,” he explains to him in Today Inside.
Rob responds soberly. “That’s a nice compliment that I’m putting in my pocket. This is a pleasant start to the broadcast. I also know that I can be very fierce during debates in the House. These are often the clips that you see in the news and on TV. I think I am generally quite calm.”
Kaag joke
Nowadays, Rob says he is always looking for the connection. “But I can get angry when it comes to evicting people, evicting entire groups. You are now making a joke about Kaag, but yesterday – also on this channel – it was said: ‘Well, I hope they don’t bring that witch out again.'”
He is referring here to Jack van Gelder. “Then I think: Jack, first of all, we could actually use that broom to clean up the mess of Wilders and Yesilgöz, but always using such language about women in powerful positions doesn’t really help the sentiment.”
Good position
René van der Gijp understands why Jetten is rising so much in the polls. “You are in a very good position, because Frans wants to be a bit of a statesman, Yesilgöz is in the corner where the blows are falling and the CDA man does not dare to say anything, because he is so high, he thinks: how did I ever get so high? I’ll keep my mouth shut now!”
Johan: “He is only decent.”
René: “And nothing more!”
What does Victor think?
What does VI expert Victor Vlam think of the interview with Rob? He writes down X: “Rob Jetten succeeds in wrapping up the VI trio. A critical question here and there, but in general Jetten receives a warm reception, unlike Wilders and Eerdmans.”
Incomprehensible, he finds it. “I would understand it if everyone was received warmly or if everyone was treated harshly. But I don’t understand why they tackle one and not the other.”
