These are exciting days for fans of Depeche Mode: After the band around Dave Gahan and Martin Gore released their new single “Ghosts Again” on February 9, 2023, the next treat is two days later: the synthpop legends are guests at Sanremo Festival. This is the band’s first performance since the death of founding member Andrew Fletcher.

The Festival della Canzone Italiana in San Remo is a renowned music competition in Italy. The spectacle, usually just called the Sanremo Festival, has been taking place since 1951 and has had a significant influence on the Eurovision Song Contest (which has existed since 1956). As the German fan site “depechemode.de” reports, the Italian presenter Amadeus recently announced that Depeche Mode will be performing on the last day of the festival — February 11, 2023.

“I’m very happy to be able to make this announcement as I’m a huge fan of this group,” Amadeus said in a statement. “I’ve been playing their hits on the radio for many years and will now have them on stage as well.”

The live stream of the last festival evening (unfortunately only audio) begins on February 11, 2023 at 6:30 p.m. German time — it is not yet known when Depeche Mode will be performing.
