Dilan Yesilgöz has been dealt with quite severely at the Today Inside table. She has virtually helped the VVD into the ditch and Johan Derksen finds that a disappointment. “You’re not the right woman.”

After the relatively mild broadcast with D66 leader Rob Jetten, the men of Today Inside treated the leader of their preferred party VVD to a quite critical interview yesterday. Dilan Yesilgöz was approached particularly hard by Johan Derksen. “It’s all about the numbers. You won’t make it,” the SBS 6 mustache snaps at her in the talk show on SBS 6.

Not the right woman

Johan is himself a list pusher for the VVD and believes that that party has the best program. “The bad thing is: you do your best and you know: I support the VVD, but you are not the right woman in the right place at the moment.”

Dilan disagrees with that. “You know, Johan, I think you are wrong. I really think you are wrong and it is up to me to convince the country in a week, that is also true, because the numbers…”

For the hell of it

Wilfred Genee interrupts her. “It would be crazy if you didn’t say it, but aren’t you kidding yourself a little? ‘Who do you like?’ Well, Henri Bontenbal – that will change after tonight – in the lead with 52 percent. You come up with 9 percent. (…) Isn’t this painful?”

Dilan: “Yes, I know.”

Johan: “We also support you, but those elections are of course about winning and losing, and with you in office the VVD will lose. Have you ever considered making your position available in the interests of the VVD and perhaps putting forward someone who will evoke more sympathy from the people?”

Type

According to Dilan, it’s not her fault. “Johan, three or four months ago we were the largest in the polls, also with this type. I accept that this is how it goes. But then I still have to look at: what is happening at our club, in the Netherlands and in the world? Then I feel that responsibility.”

She continues: “I won’t let anyone say that three months ago, when we had 30 seats, it was despite me. I just have to do my best now.”

Bullshit

Things can move quickly in politics, Johan tells her. “You’re a football coach. If you win, you’re good, and if you lose, you suck.”

Wilfred scornfully: “We wanted to invite Douwe Bob, but he is in America, otherwise he could have performed here. Joking aside: we are not going to talk about Douwe Bob anymore, you yourself admitted the blunder, that is done. Only: it is getting closer now and the numbers are just not good.”

60 percent

Dilan thinks she can still surprise. “Luckily for me, 60 percent of people have doubts, and they don’t know it yet. That long week we still have to go, then we will go for it.”

Johan votes VVD anyway. “I have always said: if I no longer know, I will return to the VVD and I have somewhat reached that point. I have nothing against the VVD, but I got a bit tired of Rutte, because he made such a mess of things. I thought: you cannot continue to support that.”

René also votes VVD

It’s a shame that the VVD has messed up so much, says Johan. “Her fighting spirit and her commitment is great, but she is not the right woman in the right position.”

Dilan: “I remind you: you also said that before I became minister and then you took everything back.”

Johan: “Then I took everything back, because you performed excellently and if you are a very good Prime Minister, then I will take it all back.”

What does René van der Gijp vote for? “VVD. I really don’t believe those others. They’re all bullshit.”
