She is the Olympic champion, but missed a medal at the World Athletics Championships. The competition was not optimal for Yemisi Ogunleye.

The expectations of Yemisi Ogunleye at the World Athletics World Cup in Tokyo were great-the German shot put Olympic champion could not meet them as planned. The 26-year-old missed a medal on Saturday after a mixed season. She landed in sixth place.

Her coach said on ZDF: “She was there. She was well prepared. What was successful in Paris in Paris did not work today.” World Cup gold went to the Dutchman Jessica Schilder in front of the American Chase Jackson and the New Zealandin Maddison-Lee Wesche.

It was not the same for Ogunleye from the start as the gold medalist from Paris wanted. In the first attempt, the DLV-Ace reached 19.33 meters, the second made Ogunleye invalid. The third did not go into the rating either. After three attempts, the young athlete was fifth.

In the fourth round, the ball landed after 18.62 meters and in the fifth it flew eleven centimeters. In the last round it reached 18.89 meters. Particularly bitter for Ogunleye, because this season the German best performance is 20.27 meters.
