Two years ago, Yemisi Ogunleye won gold at the Olympics. Now the German athlete is lucky again.
Olympic shot put champion Yemisi Ogunleye has married American football professional Tyler Mabry. The 27-year-old posted five photos with her partner on Instagram on Saturday. Ogunleye can be seen wearing a bridal veil and a white dress with a long train. Mabry, who was last briefly under contract with the Carolina Panthers in 2025, wears a classic black suit.

Under her post, Ogunleye commented, among other things, a ring emoji and a white heart. The daughter of a Nigerian and a German wrote: “Joshua 24:15.” Ogunleye is a member of the gospel choir and is referring to chapter 24, verse 15 in the Old Testament of the Bible in the book of Joshua: “But if you do not feel comfortable serving the Lord, choose today whom you will serve: the gods that your fathers served on the other side of the river, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land you live. But I and my household will serve the Lord.”
It didn’t take long for the happy reactions to arrive. “Congratulations,” wrote sprint star Gina Brückenkemper and sent an emotional smiley and a heart emoji. Runner Alica Schmidt also commented: “All the best to you,” and added two red heart emojis and an touched smiley.
Ogunleye is the first German Olympic champion in the shot put since Astrid Kumbernuss in Atlanta in 1996. Things haven’t been going so smoothly for her husband recently. Marby was with the Seattle Seahawks from 2020 to 2024. He moved to the Panthers in July 2025, but was released just under a month later after an injury.
