Yandex and the Internet Video Association (which includes online cinemas ivi, Okko, Megogo and others) petitioned to bring them to an antitrust case against Apple, writes “Kommersant“With reference to the FAS documentation. Yandex’s application has already been accepted, the service confirmed.

Yandex joined the FAS proceedings with Apple due to restrictions on access to alternative payment methods in the App Store.

“We decided to take part in the process, because the decision on this case can have a great impact on both users and developers,” – said RBC in Yandex. The company added that they advocate that users have the opportunity to make in-app purchases in any way convenient for them.

The antimonopoly service opened a case against Apple back in the fall. The reason is the commission that Apple takes from each payment in the AppStore in the amount of 15 to 30%. At the same time, the company prohibits application developers from informing users about alternative payment methods outside the AppStore. So, some applications are cheaper on the developer’s website.

Aleksey Byrdin, general director of the Internet Video Association, noted that Apple’s commission for purchases in the App Store, for example, for renewing a subscription to an online cinema, is 30%. “At stake are tens and hundreds of millions of rubles that are now going into Apple’s pocket,” he explained, adding that the proceedings are important for the entire paid content market in Russia.
