The Xiaomi Redmi Note 17 series is set to be unveiled on July 14, and exciting news for fans spills in. According to leaks, Snapdragon chips will enhance performance and response times.
When searching for a new smartphone, many automatically lean towards the latest flagship models. With powerful cameras, bright displays, and swift processors, these devices have their appeal. However, a budget model may suffice for many users’ everyday needs.
A leak from Weibo-leaker Experience More (via ITHome) suggests that the new Xiaomi Redmi Note 17 lineup will be entirely equipped with Snapdragon chips. This upgrade is noticeable when scrolling, as everything runs more smoothly and apps or web pages load faster.
Xiaomi Redmi Note 17 and 17 Pro: Snapdragon Chips for Smoother Applications
Xiaomi is expected to reveal the new devices on July 14 and has confirmed some details, though the chip information is new. If the leak is accurate, Xiaomi significantly elevates its budget series. Previously, the brand utilized MediaTek processors for affordable models, reserving Snapdragon chips for the Pro versions.
All models are now anticipated to feature Qualcomm processors, known for their speed and quality. The Redmi Note 17 is set to launch with a Snapdragon 4 Gen 4, while the Note 17 Pro will feature a Snapdragon 6s Gen 4. Both chips were released in late 2025 for entry-level and mid-tier smartphones.
The Xiaomi 17 maintains its flagship status with the latest Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5, while the Xiaomi 17T is said to only incorporate a MediaTek chip.
On paper, the Redmi Note 17 showcases specifications that are unusual for its price segment. Its massive 8000 mAh battery is expected to charge rapidly at 45 watts via wired connections and 22.5 watts wirelessly.
Interestingly, the main camera has been downgraded to 50 megapixels (MP), down from the 108 MP of its predecessor, the Redmi Note 15. Nevertheless, the 50 MP should still be sufficient for casual snapshots of family and friends. The 7-inch display shines at 1200 to 1800 nits, providing plenty of brightness even in direct sunlight.
Xiaomi Redmi Note 17 Pro
The Redmi Note 17 Pro takes it a step further with a 6.83-inch display that boasts up to 3,500 nits of brightness, ensuring no visibility issues in sunlight. Its 9,000 mAh battery can quickly charge at 67 watts via wired connections, and 22.5 watts wirelessly.
According to a report from fan blog Ximitime, the Pro model is expected to offer IP66/IP68/IP69/IP69K protection, making it dustproof and protected against heavy water jets and submersion. The standard model is reportedly also resistant to dust and water sprays.
Price and Availability
As of now, no pricing or launch dates have leaked, but following the presentation on July 14, we should have clearer information. The predecessor model, the Redmi Note 15, was launched in Germany in early 2026, with prices ranging between €200 and €500. Due to current chip shortages driven by high demand, the new models may see a slightly higher launch price.
Additionally, Xiaomi may initially release the series in China and plan for an international launch in early next year. Before this, excitement builds for the upcoming Xiaomi 18 series, expected to incorporate the latest and fastest Qualcomm chips—making it one of the first smartphone series to do so.
