Game Freak breaks away from its “Pokémon” roots with “Beast of Reincarnation,” presenting not only a fresh aesthetic but also gameplay that diverges significantly. Players aiming for the coveted Platinum trophy on PS5 should prepare for at least two full playthroughs and potentially a heap of grinding.
Japanese studio Game Freak, primarily known for their work on the “Pokémon” series, showcases their versatility with “Beast of Reincarnation”. By stepping out of their comfort zone, the developers deliver a notably darker and visually opulent action RPG. The gameplay style and combat system evoke comparisons to genre giants like “NieR: Automata”, suggesting players will engage in complex gameplay rather than lighthearted monster-catching.
New Game+ Calls for a Second Playthrough
According to PSNProfiles, there are a total of 46 trophies in “Beast of Reincarnation,” comprising 1 Platinum, 2 Gold, 11 Silver, and 32 Bronze. One of the major requirements for trophy hunters is the “Reincarnated” trophy, which mandates the successful completion of the game in New Game+. Consequently, those aspiring for Platinum should set aside ample time, as a single playthrough won’t suffice.
The adventure following Emma and her companion Koo in a post-apocalyptic Japan in the year 4026 proves to be quite challenging, as indicated by initial previews. Therefore, a second run in New Game+, which often increases difficulty, will likely not be a walk in the park.
Full Program: Level 100 and a Bounty of Collectibles
Beyond the story bosses, players can expect a significant amount of grinding. To unlock the “The Ultimate Vessel” and “The Perfect Pal” trophies, both Emma and the Wolf Koo must achieve the maximum level of 100. Furthermore, these trophies require 100% completion of “Beast of Reincarnation”: players must fully upgrade every blade, every ranged weapon, including all Blade Arts for Emma and Bloom Arts for Koo. In addition, all documents must be read, every painting discovered, every cookbook obtained, and each shrine and campsite need to be found.
The built-in trust system also requires players to reach maximum relationship levels with Koo and another character named Kagura. This mechanic could demand considerably more time and effort from players.
The true extent of the effort required for the Platinum run will only become clear once “Beast of Reincarnation” is released on August 4, 2026, for PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC.
