There has been social unrest at residential care centers for some time now. With the campaign ‘What’s the plan?’ the management want to make it clear that they want to sit at the table with Minister Genez to map out the future of elderly care. Because there are savings coming that everyone will feel, including the residents.

Various problems

Frank Vanfleteren, Zorgnet-Icuro West and Central Coast: “The cost of infrastructure has increased by 25 percent in recent years. A second problem is that infrastructure subsidies have been reduced from 60% to approximately 22%. In addition, in October the minister announced an additional saving of 46 million euros in elderly care. This has an impact of 45 euros per resident per month, for a normal facility this means 65,000 euros.”

Last month, the Flemish residential care centers already sent an open letter to Minister Gennez. Next week they will go to her cabinet in Brussels. The online petition of ‘What is the plan?’ has already been signed by more than 17,000 people.
