A thunderstorm hits the tennis tournament in Berlin and forces the organizers to clear the area. It is still unclear whether the final will even take place.
A storm paralyzed the WTA tournament in Berlin on Sunday. Heavy water damaged parts of the infrastructure on the site – including the electrical and power supply systems. The final between the American Jessica Pegula and the Czech Linda Noskova cannot begin until 4 p.m. at the earliest.
The organizers announced on Instagram: “Due to a storm, we had to evacuate the tournament site as a precaution. The heavy water masses damaged parts of the infrastructure on the site. Despite an intensive exchange with the German Weather Service, the storm occurred unexpectedly with this intensity.”
Fans asked her not to arrive initially for safety reasons. “We are working hard to continue the tournament and are currently reviewing the procedure,” it continued. Further information will follow in the coming hours. The double final will then take place.
