Schell defeated Turkey’s Buse Cavusoglu Tosun in the final of the weight class up to 72 kilograms. Schell had already won European Championship silver in 2019, and the 28-year-old has already finished third at the World Championships twice in her career.
Stefanie Stüber won the last European Championship title for the German women’s team 15 years ago in Sofia, Bulgaria.
Niemesch is subject to third place at the Olympics
Luisa Niemesch lost in the final of the class up to 62 kilograms to Olympic bronze medalist and former world champion Taybe Yusein from Bulgaria.
Sandra Paruszewski prevailed in the small final of the 57-kilogram class against Anhelina Lysak from Poland.
Elena Brugger had already won bronze on Thursday. Before the final weekend of the European Championships in Hungary, the German team has four medals. The German men had previously received nothing.
