Wreaths for war victims in merchant navy at ‘Own monument’: ‘My mother was torpedoed twice’

For decades it has been underexposed: the role of 4200 sailors of the Dutch merchant navy who died during the Second World War. They transported goods and manpower for the Allies under enemy fire, but hardly received any recognition after the war. Only decades later, partly due to the efforts of the Merchant Personnel Foundation 1940-1945, that slowly changed.
