The 29-year-old Weghorst made the switch this winter for fourteen million euros from VfL Wolfsburg to Burnley, which is in the Premier League. The Dutchman must therefore try to help Sean Dyche’s team to avoid relegation, starting with tonight’s home game against Watford, who had two points ahead of Burnley beforehand.
In any case, Weghorst immediately gained confidence with his first base spot. Burnley started with two Dutchmen: Weghorst and Erik Pieters. After a scoreless first half, it was Weghorst who immediately had the greatest chance of the match in the second half. The Dutchman saw his shot blocked and stayed outside the goal via the crossbar.
It was a sparsely dangerous moment in an otherwise disappointing game. There were no more goals and so Burnley and Watford, where Roy Hodgson made his debut as coach, had to make do with a point. A point where neither team can get anywhere.
