She is only 19 years young, but a true queen of the skies: Zara Rutherford is the youngest woman to fly solo around the world!
The Belgian-British pilot took off from Belgium in a light aircraft on August 18, 2018. Their journey took them via Iceland, Canada, the USA, South America, Russia, Indonesia, India, Saudi Arabia, Egypt and Hungary – a total of 90 stops and more than 50,000 kilometers!
On Sunday afternoon, the 19-year-old lands for her last stopover in Egelsbach near Frankfurt am Main before returning to Belgium on Monday. Then she is the youngest woman who has circumnavigated the earth alone – record!
Zara wants to get people excited about flying and about mathematics, computer science, natural sciences and technology: “With this flight, I want to encourage girls and young women to pursue their dreams.”
