Since Valve launched the Steam Machine at an entry price of €1,039, alternative products have been popping up everywhere. Some offer lower prices for the same performance, while others boast enhanced specs based on the manufacturer’s suggested retail price (MSRP).
A recent contender aims to provide both affordability and superior performance. A post in the Steam Machine subreddit discusses an offer from a Chinese online marketplace, showcasing a stylish white mini-PC styled like the Steam Machine, featuring 2 TB of storage for 4,680 RMB (approximately €600).
The advertised configuration reportedly includes an AMD Ryzen 5 5500, a Radeon RX 6750 GRE with 10 GiB of VRAM, 16 GiB DDR5 RAM, a Jginyue B350I-Plus motherboard, and SteamOS. While a controller is shown in the image, it is not mentioned in the listing itself.
However, if something sounds too good to be true, it often is: the specifications of this Chinese offering fail to withstand technical scrutiny.
DDR5 on an AM4 Board and Full-Size GPU in a Mini-Case
The first glaring issue is the RAM. The Ryzen 5 5500 is an AM4 processor, and the claimed Jginyue B350I-Plus is an AM4 motherboard. Yet, AM4 exclusively supports DDR4. Therefore, the claim of “16 GiB DDR5” in the advertisement is simply incorrect.
Secondly, the graphics card: the Radeon RX 6750 GRE is a full-size desktop GPU with a dual-slot, dual-fan design. According to VideoCardz, the pictured case resembles the Chuwi UBox, a compact mini-PC designed for mobile APUs, which notoriously lacks the space for a dedicated desktop graphics card. Hence, the RX 6750 GRE wouldn’t even fit.
Component Costs Exceed Total Price
VideoCardz also evaluated the individual prices of the mentioned components on Chinese platforms. The cheapest available RX 6750 GRE costs around 1,859 RMB — already the dual-slot, dual-fan model that doesn’t fit in the case. A 2 TB SSD (PCIe 3.0) starts at approximately 1,199 RMB, while 16 GiB of DDR4 RAM costs about 449 RMB. The Ryzen 5 5500 is roughly 600 RMB, and the B350I-Plus motherboard is around 268 RMB.
These five items total roughly 4,375 RMB, nearly consuming the entire advertised budget of 4,680 RMB, and this doesn’t include the power supply, case, CPU cooler, assembly, shipping, dealer margin, or warranty costs. The hinted controller is also not accounted for in this tally.
