It returns on April 7th World Health Day 2026an event that, year after year, invites us to stop and reflect on a topic that always affects everyone: our health. Promoted byWorld Health Organizationthis anniversary is not only symbolic, but represents a moment of collective awareness. This year the message is clear, powerful and necessary: “Together for health. Alongside science”. A phrase that almost sounds like an invitation to trust research, to support it and to recognize its value in our daily lives.

An anniversary that comes from afar

World Health Day has its roots in 1948, the year it was established during the first WHO Assembly. Since 1950 it has been celebrated every April 7, coinciding with the foundation of the organization. It’s not just a date on the calendar: it’s a lens through which to look at the great health challenges of our time, come on climate change to pandemics, up to equitable access to care.

“Together for health. Alongside science

“Together for health” is not just a slogan. It’s a vision. The 2026 campaign focuses on an increasingly current concept: health is not only human, but also concerns animals, the environment and the planet. It is the principle of the approach OneHealthwhich reminds you how connected everything is. In a world where information flows fast and often confusing, staying “at the side of science” means choosing data, evidence, knowledge. It means building trust. And, above all, it means not feeling alone.

Key events: when science meets

The day opens with two very important international events:

  • International One Health Summit (7 April), hosted by the French government as part of the G7 presidency.
  • Global Forum of WHO Collaborating Centers (7-9 April)which brings together around 800 scientific institutions from over 80 countries.

Two events that tell a simple but fundamental thing: global health is built together.

Through comparisons, shared data and new strategies, yes works to transform research into concrete actions. Not just theory, therefore, but real solutions for real problems.

Hashtags, dialogue and participation

The 2026 campaign is not limited to experts. Indeed, it involves everyone.

Through hashtags #StandWithScience And #WorldHealthDayanyone can participate in the global dialogue, share experiences and contribute to spreading a culture of health based on scientific evidence. Because yes, health is also a question of information.

Operation Smile: when care becomes accessible

Alongside the great global strategies, there are concrete projects that make the difference. Like that of Operation Smile Italy, which launches “Operation 100” on the occasion of the day.

The objective is ambitious and profoundly human:

  • train 100 local surgical teams
  • operate in 100 district hospitals
  • ensure treatment for cleft lip and palate in countries with limited resources.

It’s not just about surgeries, it’s about a real paradigm shift. As director Marcella Bianco explains, the project aims to build autonomous and sustainable healthcare systemscapable of continuing to treat well into the future. In other words: not just help, but teach how to do it.

Because this day really concerns us

It might seem like a distant topic, made up of international summits and large organizations. But no.

World Health Day also – and above all – talks about us: about the trust we place in science, about the choices we make every day and about access to care, which is not yet the same for everyone. In an era where the misinformation can become as dangerous as a disease, supporting science is a daily act. Small, but powerful.

A (kind) invitation to do your part

You don’t need to be a doctor or researcher to contribute. Sometimes it’s enough to get better information, share reliable content, support serious initiatives. Or, simply, choose to listen to those who work every day to improve global health. Because, as this day reminds us, health is a common good. And taking care of it – together – is the only way to truly protect it.
