The Norwegian cross-country skiing star Johannes Hösflot Kläbo is taking a break from training after his false start to the winter.

The five-time Olympic champion will forego the World Cup in Gällivare, Sweden next weekend and may also be able to take part on the 9th/10th. December in Östersund are missing.

Kläbo: Weakened after corona illness

“Maybe I’ll come back in Östersund, or maybe only in Trondheim. I have to see what happens to my body”said the 27-year-old. On the opening weekend in Kuusamo, Finland, Kläbo only finished third (sprint), 14th (10 km) and 21st (20 km). The superstar, who won 20 of 31 World Cup races last season, was ill with Corona shortly before the start of the World Cup and, weakened, ended up at the back of the field in the distance races.

A year ago he won all three races at the same place. “Thank God it’s over“, said Kläbo on Sunday after the last competition: “Now I need a lot of training kilometers.”
