World Cup table calculator Group E: How will Germany progress?

After a draw against Spain

With the 1-1 draw against Spain, the German national team has progress to the round of 16 at the World Cup in Qatar in their own hands. In the last group game on Thursday evening (from 8 p.m. in the TM live ticker) against Costa Rica, the team of national coach Hansi Flick must not afford a draw or a defeat, otherwise the preliminary round is perfect. There are different constellations for a win, depending on the outcome of the parallel game between Spain and Japan. The starting position in Group E at a glance.

Germany (1 point, 2:3 goals) progresses…

– if they win against Costa Rica if Spain wins against Japan

– in a win by at least two goals if Spain and Japan draw

– a win by one goal if Spain and Japan draw and Japan have then scored fewer goals overall

– if they win, if Spain lose to Japan and Germany catch up on goal difference, which is currently eight goals worse than Spain. So every own victory with a difference of at least eight goals is enough. If Germany and Spain have the same number of points and total goal difference, first the fair play rating and then the lot decides.

Spain (4 points, 8-1 goals) advances…

– if you win or draw against Japan

– in a loss against Japan if Costa Rica draws against Germany

– if they lose to Japan, if Germany wins against Costa Rica but does not come back from their current goal difference of eight goals. If Spain and Germany have the same overall goal difference in this case, the fair play ranking will decide first and then the draw of lots.

Japan (3 points, 2:2 goals) progresses…

– in a win against Spain

– in a draw against Spain if Costa Rica and Germany also draw

– in a draw against Spain, if Germany beat Costa Rica by one goal and ended up scoring at most the same number of goals as Japan.

Costa Rica (3 points, 1:7 goals) progresses…

– in a win against Germany

– in a draw against Germany if Spain wins against Japan
