After the match of the arch-rivals Göztepe and Altay in the Spor Toto 1st League was suspended due to the events, a written statement was made by the Izmir Governor’s Office.

It has been deemed necessary to make the following statement regarding the Göztepe – Altay Spor Toto 1st League match played on 27.11.2022 in our province Gürsel Aksel Stadium. In the 19th minute of the match in question, a flammable substance called a flare was thrown to Göztepe fans from the part of the guest tribune. The firecracker hit Göztepe supporter Mehmet Çakır and injured him. Çakır was taken to the hospital for treatment.
TWO PRIVATE AMBULANCE DRIVER DETENTION
Following the incident, the statement stated that camera detection works were carried out in the stadium, and the following words were included:
From the camera detection studies, it was determined that flammable materials, called fog, were burned in the visitors’ tribune, and the fans in the place where the fog was intense were detected and detained by our security forces. As a result of the investigation, it was understood that the drivers of the private ambulance company in charge of the stadium left the fog and flares in the stadium toilet and distribution was made from there to the fans. In the camera detection studies, it was observed that ambulance drivers entered the toilets where the guest tribune was located at 16.34 with 2 backpacks and then made intensive phone calls. Persons named AG and HK, the personnel of the private ambulance company, who put their backpacks in the toilets of the guest tribune, were taken into custody.
In addition, in the statement made, it was understood that DD, EY and KE, who used criminal materials in the stands, committed the crime in an organized way, and it was stated that a total of 21 people related to the incident were caught and the necessary legal proceedings were initiated against them.
