World Cup in Winterberg: Tobogganing: Home game for Cheyenne Rosenthal

As of: January 5, 2024 6:03 p.m

The Toboggan World Cup is stopping off in Sauerland at the start of the year. A total of 125 sleds from 22 nations are registered for this weekend’s competition.

It’s a special race for local hero Cheyenne Rosenthal. The 23-year-old from BSC Winterberg starts in doubles with Jessica Degenhardt (Altenberg).

Rosenthal/Degenhardt in good form

The reigning double world champions celebrated their first World Cup victory in Winterberg last year. They are currently in third place in the overall standings after three of twelve races and recently celebrated their first win of the season in Whistler (Canada). At the end of December, the duo also secured the German championship title in Altenberg.

Dajana Eitberger (Ilmenau) is celebrating her double-seater premiere in Winterberg. After her successful career in singles, she is competing with Saskia Schirmer (Berchtesgarden). The top German luger Julia Taubitz (Annaberg-Buchholz), currently the leader in the overall World Cup after two victories, as well as the German champion and world champion Anna Berreiter (Berchtesgaden) will start in the individual competition.

Double competition without Geueke/Gamm

The strongest German lugers will also take part in the men’s event. The German champion Felix Loch (Berchtesgaden) and the World Cup leader Max Langenhahn (Friedrichroda) are there in the individual. Langenhahn got off to a perfect start this season and won all three World Cups so far. He leads the classification ahead of the two Austrians Jonas Müller and Nico Gleirscher.

Also taking part in the doubles is the duo Tobias Wendl/Tobias Arlt (Berchtesgaden/Königssee), who surprisingly recently had to admit defeat to Hannes Orlamünder/Paul Gubitz (Schwarza/Zella-Mehlis) at the German championships. The Winterberg duo Robin Geueke/David Gamm, who ended their careers in December after 13 successful years, is no longer there.

Team relay at the end

It starts on Saturday morning at 8:55 a.m. with the first two runs of the women’s doubles, followed by the individual competition (from 11:25 a.m.). At the end of the day it will be the men’s doubles in the afternoon from 2.30 p.m. The men’s single-seater competition takes place on Sunday morning (from 9.25 a.m.) before the team relay takes place at the end at 1 p.m.
