DFB stars land in Chicago
Kimmich and Co. move into the Waldorf Astoria

The DFB team has landed in Chicago and is starting training in the USA. The friendly match against the co-host of the World Cup is on Saturday.
The national soccer team arrived in America with a greeting from the airport tower. After an eight-hour flight, Julian Nagelsmann and his World Cup team landed at O’Hare International Airport in the northwest of Chicago on Tuesday afternoon (local time).
“Welcome to the German team,” the air traffic controllers said, the Lufthansa captain reported over the onboard loudspeaker of the welcome greeting after landing. The DFB partner’s scheduled flight arrived in the early afternoon German time Frankfurt/Main started slightly late after a thunderstorm, but was able to catch up.
From the airport, captain Joshua Kimmich and the DFB crew drove a good 25 kilometers to the city center of the metropolis on Lake Michigan. The selection stays there in the Hotel Waldorf Astoria. Nagelsmann scheduled the first training session on Wednesday at 11 a.m. local time – 6 p.m. in Germany.
The national team is preparing for the World Cup at the Chicago Fire training ground. Bastian Schweinsteiger once played for the Major League Soccer club. The last test match for the World Cup will take place on Saturday (8.30 p.m./CEST/RTL) at Soldier Field against co-hosts USA. The move to the World Cup Hotel in Winston-Salem in North Carolina will follow next Monday.
