FIFA President Gianni Infantino has promised all football fans a safe World Cup 2026 and worried about the political circumstances in the United States. “The world is welcome in America,” said Infantino in his speech at the FIFA Congress in Paraguay’s capital Asunción.

Most recently, in view of the restrictive migration policy of US President Donald Trump, concerns had been expressed that all fans and delegations at the tournament in the summer of next year could easily move between the three hosts USA, Canada and Mexico or that there could be problems for people from certain countries in the USA.

Infantino sees no reason for this and referred to a recently held top meeting in the White House, where US Vice President JD Vance was also present. The Trump deputy then said that all football fans were welcome, but they would have to leave the country afterwards.

At the same time, Infantino emphasized that his statement only refers to peaceful fans. “Anyone who makes trouble is not welcome anywhere in the world,” he said. In football there is no place for “Troubleakers”. This summer, the club World Cup with 32 teams from all six FIFA confederation will also take place in the USA.
