Because Ivory Coast was drawn into the German national team’s World Cup group, the planned test match cannot take place. Now the new opponent has been determined.

The German Football Association (DFB) has announced that the German national team will play against Ghana in Stuttgart on March 30th. In preparation for next year’s World Cup in the USA, Mexico and Canada, the DFB team will face the team coached by former Bundesliga professional Otto Addo as national coach.

The German national team was originally supposed to play against Ivory Coast. But after the World Cup draw on December 5th, Ivory Coast was determined to be the DFB team’s group opponent, which is why a replacement opponent had to be found. Ghana, the four-time African champions, now takes on this role.

Germany’s national coach was positive about the upcoming game. “We are really looking forward to the duel with Otto’s team,” said Julian Nagelsmann. “Their strong transition play can give us a foretaste of the World Cup group duel with Ivory Coast.”

With the test match against Ghana, the German national team’s roadmap to the World Cup is clear. Three days before the game against Ghana, the team will face Switzerland in Basel. Further preparation games are planned against Finland on May 31st in Mainz and against the USA on June 6th in Chicago. The DFB team’s first World Cup game will take place on June 14th in Houston against Curacao. In Group E, matches against Ivory Coast will follow on June 20th in Toronto and against Ecuador on June 25th in East Rutherford.

Ghana has also qualified for the World Cup and will play in Group L against England, Croatia and Panama. The German team has played against Ghana three times in the past, including two duels at the World Cup. The last meeting at the 2014 World Cup in Brazil ended in a 2-2 draw.
