Bernd Neuendorf is skeptical about US President Donald Trump’s possible intervention in next year’s World Cup tournament schedule in the USA, Canada and Mexico.

“Relocating venues nine months before a World Cup with 48 teams would be a complicated undertaking,” said the President of the German Football Association (DFB), who also sits on the council of the world association FIFA, to the “Frankfurter Rundschau”: “And it would possibly also lead to legal disputes.”

Trump had threatened some host cities that he could revoke their hosting role with a simple call to FIFA President Gianni Infantino if he didn’t like the security situation there.

Neuendorf does not believe in this simple mechanism. “Contracts have been concluded, investments have been made,” said the 64-year-old: “FIFA will definitely do everything to ensure that the games can take place safely as planned in the cities designated for them.”
