World Cup 2022: England’s Raheem Sterling leaves for personal reasons

Reports of burglary

England international Raheem Sterling left the World Cup in Qatar for personal reasons. This was reported by Gareth Southgate on Sunday after the 3-0 win over Senegal in the round of 16. According to consistent media reports, armed people broke into Sterling’s home home when his family was at home. Sterling was therefore not in the squad of the “Three Lions” when they defeated the African champions.

Whether the Chelsea attacker, who switched from Manchester City to Stamford Bridge in the summer for around 56 million euros, can still intervene during the tournament, which continues for England on Saturday (8:00 p.m.) in the quarter-finals against world champions France, is open. “We’ll have to see and wait. At this moment, the priority is completely with his family,” Southgate clarified.

The 81-cap Sterling had contributed twice for England in their first two games against Iran and the USA. The 27-year-old was in the squad for the 3-0 win against Wales but did not play. With a market value of 70 million euros, the attacker is one of the ten most valuable players in the Southgate squad.
