World beach volleyball, Menegatti-Gottardi’s dream ends in the quarterfinals

The curtain falls on the world championship also for the Menegatti-Gottardi couple. The blues yield 0-2 (15-21; 12-21) to the more experienced Canadians Bukovec-Brandie, number 20 of the tournament seed. There is a lot of positive, girls have a lot of potential and there is plenty of time to develop it. Especially for Valentina Gottardi, twenty years old, at her first world participation. The Canadians make less mistakes and are very good at exploiting the mistakes of the Italians. In the first set the North American couple is always ahead with a decent margin, Marta and Valentina try to stem but the Canadians stretch up to +5 (19-14). The run then ends with a Canadian ace. In the second set it is always Bukovec-Brandie who dictate the pace, gradually gaining ground. In the end, the Italians must surrender at 12-21. “Tonight the opponents put us under pressure and they were good at finding the right solutions, while we were not able to express our game to the fullest.”, Says Marta Menegatti. “Despite the elimination, we are satisfied with the general path we have made in this World Cup, the first for Valentina”. The thought then goes to the future: “From tomorrow we will return to work to try to improve our team harmony even more”. For Valentina Gottardi, however, there is satisfaction with the result obtained: “I go home satisfied with the fifth final place obtained in my first participation in a World Championship. Unfortunately today we didn’t play one of our best games and we were eliminated ”.
